Jewish Mentor Initiative

The goal the Jewish mentor initiative is to help mentors, Jewish community members, and mentees, Jewish Cal students, make connections that will help them personally and professionally in the future. We hope to pair community member and Cal students who have similar professional and personal interests.

The program is set up in the following way: Students and community members will commit to two meetings with each other. These meetings could include dinner, a coffee meeting, Shabbat dinner or other social gathering. At the end of these two meetings both the student and community member can decide if they would like to continue their relationship and if so, how that relationship will continue. The mentorship could continue as sporadic meetings, an internship, or the mentee shadowing the mentor at work.

If you would like to be involved as a mentor or mentee email Kelly at KellyMiz@berkeley.edu and she will send you the short application.

Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

How do I schedule meetings with my Mentor/Mentee?
Both the Mentor and Mentee will receive the contact information (phone number and email) for each other. It is up to each party to make contact and set up their own meetings.

Where should I meet my Mentor/Mentee?
Since most students do not have a car we recommend meeting around campus at a coffee shop or restaurant. However, be creative, a meeting could even include Shabbat dinner at the Mentor’s house.

How can I continue the relationship with my Mentor/Mentee after the initial required two meetings?
The Mentor/Mentee relationship can continue in a number of ways including:
• Internship at the Mentor’s work
• Meetings like you have been having
• Social gatherings for Jewish Holidays
• Shadowing the Mentor at work
