Student GroupsIsrael Oriented Student Groups at Berkeley HillelStudent groups at Berkeley Hillel are members of the Jewish Student Union (JSU). The JSU is a democratically governed umbrella group, affiliated with both Berkeley Hillel and the Associated Students of the University of California. The JSU groups receive both funding and advice from the staff of Berkeley Hillel but are empowered create programming independently so long as it accords with the Berkeley Hillel/JSU overall policy on Israel programming.The Israel Action Committee (IAC)The IAC is one of the oldest and most active student groups at Cal. With a history the stretches back to the days of the Yom Kippur War the IAC has been a constant source of Israel centered activism, advocacy and education on the Cal campus. The IAC is dedicated to educating the students and faculty at UC Berkeley about Israel: the politics and current issues, the diversity of cultures that exist in the state today, and the various perspectives surrounding the country and its presence in the Middle East. IAC is also a support group and social network for students who believe in and are passionate about the state of Israel. IAC provides a forum for its members to discuss and learn more about Israel without fear of judgment by others. Kesher EnoshiThe newest Israel oriented student group Kesher Enoshi, which means the human connection in Hebrew states it mission thus; as human beings, we have a responsibility to stand with others for their human rights. As Jews, we have a special connection to the land and people of Israel. Their mission is to engage directly with Israeli civil society, to educate themselves and others about the day-to-day struggles of people in Israel, and to link their struggles with those on campus and in the wider community. They seek to establish close ties with human rights organizations in the country, learning about their programs and objectives, and contributing human and financial resources to their cause. AIPACThe AIPAC cadre are student activists who are dedicated to furthering AIPAC’s goal of strengthening the relationship between Israel and America. These students take part in lobbying, conferences and other programs. Boalt Students for Israel (BFSI)BFSI works within the Boalt School of Law to present a positive image of Israel to the law student community. They work to counter the efforts of groups who vilify Israel by hosting speakers, seminars and other events.
