Israel

Strategy

Our strategy on Israel activism includes:

1) Working with a number of student groups (see below) to present diverse pro-Israel speakers and programs to attract a broad Jewish and non-Jewish audience.

2) To identify fresh perspectives – both on and beyond the conflict - that can reach new audiences with different kinds of positive messages.

3) To build a strong support system with administration, faculty, law enforcement, etc. should tensions or issues surface on campus.

4) To work with individual students who report anti-Israel bias inside or outside the classroom on campus;

5) To encourage student activists to attend activist retreats and conferences to enhance their skills.

6) To seize opportunities for students to participate in trips to Israel that can solidify their commitment and advocating for easier access by students to Israeli Universities.

7) To hire and deploy Jewish professionals who are passionate about Israel and its role in Jewish life. Our staff includes an Israel Fellow whose full time job is to bring Israel in all its aspects to the students at Cal. As of Fall 2008, Berkeley Hillel is proud to add a member of the Israel Fellows to its team. The Israel Fellows are recent Israeli college graduates who serve as Israel’s emissaries on college campuses across the country. Berkeley Hillel is delighted to have additional Israel resources for our students, staff and community.
